Testimonials

Project example: The first stage of restoration of an active raised bog at Clarepool Moss involved removal of timber and scrub from 4.5 hectares of peat. Due to the nature of the site, including two areas of floating bog, the work needed to be carried out in a sensitive manner.

“The work was carried out to the required standards and the site was left in a very ‘clean’ condition – to a standard much higher than normally required in forestry operations to allow bog restoration.” Conservation Officer, English Nature

“I am pleased to recommend DA Hughes as an experienced, effective and competent forestry contractor able to deal with special demands required when working on wet peatlands” Lead Advisor, Natural England

Project example: Fenn’s, Whixall & Bettisfield Mosses National Nature Reserve is Britain’s third largest raised bog. This contract required removal of pine timber and scrub from 12 hectares of peat, a proportion of which could only be accessed by crossing 350m of deep peat. Due to this a sensitive approach to working was essential, made increasingly difficult by the site being bordered by well-used public right-of-way and restrictions on not being able to use existing trackways.

“Before the commencement of the work Mr Hughes gave very sound advice on working methods and during the work he and his staff amended working methods as necessary to reflect my wishes, and as ground conditions dictated. “Mr Hughes proved to be honest, very co-operative and good to work with.” Site Manager, English Nature
